There are many types of bugs out there, and the first step in ensuring an effective bug control is knowing the type you’re dealing with. Here are some of the common bugs that are considered pests because of the risks they pose to your home and family’s health.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs feed on blood from humans or animals. They are annoying because their bites can turn into itchy welts. These pests are most active at night. Although they are usually found in mattresses, they can also live in upholstered furniture and cracks in furniture.

Aphids are bugs that feed on leaves and flowers.  They have specialized mouths to suck the fluids from plants. These pesky pests are also called Plant Lice because they devour the liquid from plants. Infested plants may shrivel and die. These pests can make your garden unsightly.

Fleas are bugs without wings. Although wingless, they can jump up to 150 times their own length.  Fleas are considered parasites as they get nutrients from their host that can be either pests or humans. Fleas can transmit diseases such as murine typhus and bubonic plague.

Though generally not dangerous, earwigs are a nuisance on patios during the hot season. Earwigs are odd-looking with pincers or forceps protruding from their abdomen.
