Do an integrated pest management approach to stop pest infestation from happening in your
home.
QUICK TIP #1 Practice Prevention
• Make your property unappealing to them. Pests just like humans need water, food and shelter to survive. If your property does not offer these, they will not stay and would most likely consider going elsewhere.
• Wipe right away any food spills and pick up the food crumbs that fell on the floor
• Keep your areas without mess
• Wash and dry dishes right after having meals
• Clean under your heavy stuff too like the sofa, refrigerators and stoves. Food debris may
have entered under which may attract unwanted pests
• Use airtight containers to store left over food or simply place them inside the refrigerator.
Cockroaches like cardboards so make sure you seal shut any boxes with food on it.
• Do the same with your trash can, always make sure the lid is shut tight. Place them outside away from your home and make it possible to regularly put them away via your neighborhood’s trash collector.
• Some pests like moisture so do fix household leaks.
• Keep your home free from clutter because pests can use them as hiding places that may eventually end up as their homes.
• Vacuum carpets, cracks and crevices regularly.
• Those with pets should make sure their food are also cleaned and properly stacked.
• Don’t let unwanted pests have an entry inside your home. Fix any screens that may be used as pest’s entry holes.
• Seal shut openings or cracks, pests can use to enter your home.
• Replace damaged or wet wood to prevent pests from taking advantage of it.
QUICK TIP #2 Consider D.I.Y. treatment
• Identify the type of pest you’ll be dealing with
• Be sure the pesticide is compatible with the type of pest you are trying to eliminate.
• Do what was only asked. Carefully read the label before use, and follow the directions as instructed.
• Use a product that is already mixed, its more preferred than the do-it-yourself mix.
• Never use a pesticide inside your home that is meant to be used outside you premises.
• Use pesticide as minimal as possible, rather than over an entire room.
• Remove children, pets, toys, and food from the area before applying pesticide.
• Check the pesticide’s label how long people/pets should be out after applying pesticide
• Strategically open the windows to air out the room after applying pesticides
• Suit yourself properly when applying pesticides. Consider using gloves, long pants, and sleeves to protect your skin from chemicals. Take a shower and put on new fresh clothes right after.
• Only buy the amount of pesticide you need to use right away. If you have leftover pesticide, store it in the original bottle, out of the reach of children and pets.
• Don’t put leftover pesticides down your drain or in the trash. Follow the label instructions to dispose of it correctly.
• Never use an empty container of pesticide for any other purpose to prevent misuse.
